Melissa Walker teaches English and Visual Arts at Nancy Campbell Academy in Stratford. She completed a PhD. in English and Theatre Studies from the University of Guelph (2012) and minored in Visual Arts in the nineties, during her undergraduate days. Melissa returned to painting in 2018 after a twenty-year hiatus. She is interested in fragmentation, allowing bits of wartime letters and archival documents to peak through vibrant painted landscapes. She believes that shards of memory, some beautiful and some painful, punctuate and perforate every place. A few of her paintings done alternately in acrylic, oil, or watercolour, while not incorporating archival fragments, show a similar sensibility in their rendering of the shapes of clouds, trees, water, domestic spaces, and figures that move the eye, memory, and emotions through our surroundings.
