The quiet, powerful beauty of natural forms and processes is the inspiration for most of my work. Over time, rendering light on form with paint and drawing materials has led me more towards creating things that occupy real space and catch light. Recently, I have combined handmade or recycled paper forms with encaustic painting materials (beeswax and resin) to create relief and three-dimensional pieces. Both high and low relief allow the qualities of light to interact with the shape and texture of dimensional materials. These representations often emerge with a "voice" to me, visual metaphors which reference human experience as much as physical form. World events of the last few years seem to have nudged much of my work into depictions of nesting or containment as both a beginning and a refuge.
