My paintings depict sojourners, messengers and forgotten goddesses. These figures are human and not human, earthly and divine, past and present, there but not there. My subjects invoke Biblical and pre-biblical legends. These nomads and refugees – the expelled, the reviled and the demonized – emerge from the surface of stark, indeterminate surroundings, lost in reverie.
I use layers of colour and transparency to evoke the immanence and otherworldliness of conjured daydreams and divinities, in order to suggest an impression of emotional experience and sensation. |
